Counselor – Master’s

POSITION OBJECTIVES

The counselor is responsible for providing high quality, trauma-informed treatment services using a patient and family-centered approach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
  2. Provide screening, assessment, and orientation that meet the requirements of funders and make treatment recommendations.
  3. Diagnose using the current DSM criteria based on information gathered during screening, assessment, and review of referral documents.
  4. Address patient needs collaboratively with the treatment team through internal and/or external referrals.
  5. Complete all required documents, including ROIs and Authorization for Info to be Released form, and submit to medical records to gather previous medical and treatment records.
  6. Integrate referral source, community, and family support into treatment when clinically appropriate; assuring Release of Information is complete in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other federal and state laws.
  7. Provide skilled person and family-centered treatment planning, individual and group therapy, family counseling, case management, and discharge planning.
  8. Provide all services according to insurance, DCF licensing, managing entity, SAMHSA, and CARF accreditation guidelines and document all services within the required timeframes according to organizational policies and procedures.
  9. Implement evidence-based practices to model fidelity in all clinical services.
  10. Provide services with cultural and linguistic competency.
  11. Track patient attendance and engagement to ensure that patients are attending services as scheduled.  Provide re-engagement services for disengaged patients as outlined in policy/patient expectations prior to discharge.
  12. Demonstrate flexibility as a team member and promote a positive working environment.
  13. Participate in clinical case consultation regarding patients’ progress in treatment and appropriate clinical interventions.
  14. Participate in program staff meetings, medical staffing, and other inter-organizational collaborations.
  15. Maintains effective verbal and non-verbal communication within a multi-disciplinary team.
  16. Participate in monthly clinical peer reviews.
  17. Perform special projects and other organization-related assignments as requested by Leadership.
  1. Be able and willing to drive a company vehicle to facilitate patient transportation.
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Licensed Clinical Staff

  1. Complete suicide/homicide risk assessments and the Baker Act process when appropriate within the scope of your training, ability, and credentialing.
  2. Provide Qualified Professional reviews of documents including assessments, treatment plans, and treatment plan reviews if within the scope of your training, ability, and credentialing.
  3. Provide Brief Behavioral Health Status Examinations for Medicaid patients when needed.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

  1. Must be eligible through DCF and AHCA with Level II Background checks throughout employment.
  1. Must abide by the organization’s code of conduct, policy and procedures, and state certification/licensure board code of ethics.
  2. Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.

  4. Must possess competencies to effectively understand and treat the population served, including working with patients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders and those receiving medication-assisted treatment.
  5. Must complete all required in person and Relias trainings assigned during the probationary period and throughout employment.
  6. Must consistently meet or exceed monthly productivity/performance goals within the first six months and throughout employment.
  7. Timely and regularly complete all required documentation, reports, and other organization-related paperwork.
  8. Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions using appropriate judgment.
  9. Must be able to analyze and solve complex problems to design solution-focused approaches
  10. Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring safe operating conditions.
  11. Must be able to take direction and guidance respectfully from managers and supervisors and function as an effective team member.
  12. Must have the ability to comply with a workplace of dignity and respect.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

FORMAL

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

 

  • Master’s degree/Licensed preferred (LMFT, LCSW, or LMHC) in a related field and experience in the treatment of behavioral health disorders.
  • CAP or MCAP preferred
  • Experience with mental health and substance use disorders preferred

SKILLS

·         Ability to formulate professional clinical reports.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life-threatening situations appropriately.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to relate to adolescents, adults, families, referral sources, and Gateway team members and must possess requisite competencies to effectively understand and provide appropriate services to the patient population served.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the recovery process and 12-step programs preferred
  • Knowledge of diagnosing using current DSM criteria.
  • Adolescent and adult behavior and family systems
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for substance use and co-occurring disorders
  • Have knowledge and understanding of cultural competencies to establish and maintain strong working relationships with culturally diverse patients, their families, and caregivers as well as a wide range of community agencies and organizations.
  • Moderate computer skills, such as inputting 35 wpm, using Microsoft Office Suites, and an Electronic Health Record.
