POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Behavioral Health Technician provides non-clinical assistance to the treatment team in rehabilitating residents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
- Demonstrate flexibility as a team member and promote a positive working environment.
- Provide services to individuals in accordance with the core competencies of a Behavioral Health Technician.
- Assist in maintaining a therapeutic environment in the organization’s residential programs.
- Understand the concepts of recovery and wellness as outlined in SAMHSA’s 8 dimensions of wellness for patients experiencing substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders.
- Promote patient life skills, including personal care and social responsibility.
- Monitor patient activities, including but not limited to meals, recreation, and pro-social activities.
- Provide services according to organizational policies and procedures.
- Provide services with cultural and linguistic competency.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other state and federal laws.
- Maintain ethical conduct regarding dual relationships, professional standards, and organizational values.
- Participate in pass-down log reporting at shift change for head counts and updates on patient progress and behavioral status.
- Conduct room and area inspections daily.
- Complete Incident Reports in the Electronic Health Record after reporting to the department manager and/or director.
- Assist in emergency preparedness with safety drills and inspections.
- Help protect the safety, security, and well-being of residents.
- De-escalate potentially adverse patient behavior.
- Report facility needs to the department manager or director, including supplies and repairs.
- Transport residents to outside meetings, medical and other appointments as needed in Gateway-owned vehicles.
- Monitor client self-medication administration and/or assist in monitoring the medication line.
- Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
- Must be eligible through DCF and AHCA with Level II Background checks throughout employment.
- Must abide by the organization’s Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, and state certification code of ethics.

- Must complete all required in-person and Relias training assigned during probation and throughout employment.
- Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.
- Timely and regularly complete all required documentation, reports, and other organization-related paperwork.

- Maintain the work area clean and orderly, ensuring safe operating conditions.
- Must be able to take direction and guidance from managers and supervisors respectfully and function as an effective team member.
- Must have the ability to comply with a workplace of dignity and respect.
