Medical Support Staff

Full-time or PRN (on call as needed)

POSITION OBJECTIVES

The medical assistant is support to the medical staffing needs of the residential nursing station working directly with the residential nurse providing services to patients living at Stockton Street. The Medical Assistant will also work with Detox staff in providing services in the drug-screening lab by observing drug screens and by drawing blood from patients as needed. Primary job duties include assisting with medication administration Monday through Friday and assisting with patient transfers to residential treatment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assisting the residential nurse with medication administration by observing patient self-administration of medications.
  2. Document in MARS the self-administration of patient medications
  3. Administer TB skin tests and document in the EHR.
  4. Obtain patient vital signs and document in the EHR.
  5. Perform blood glucose tests and document in the EHR.
  6. Complete paperwork for new residential admissions.
  7. Give instructions to patients as required by physicians and PA’s when residential nurse is not available.
  8. Initiate crisis intervention if needed with patients
  9. Assist and manage the behavior of patients while in the residential nursing area.
  10. Ensure adherence to medication schedules.
  11. Assist the residential nurse as directed.
  12. Assist the lab techs with drug screens as needed.
  13. Draw blood from patients as needed and prepare for collection.
  14. Must be able to learn how to use the agency’s electronic health record and other electronic systems
  15. Must meet work attendance requirements.
  16. Perform special projects and other Agency related assignments as requested.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  1. Must be eligible through DCF and AHCA with Level II Background checks throughout employment.
  1. Must abide by the organization’s Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, and state certification code of ethics.

  3. Must complete all required in-person and Relias trainings assigned during the probationary period and throughout employment.
  4. Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.
  5. Timely and regularly complete all required documentation, reports, and other organization-related paperwork.
  6. Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions using appropriate judgment.
  7. Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring safe operating conditions.
  8. Must be able to take direction and guidance respectfully from managers and supervisors and function as an effective team member or Must be able to take direction and guidance respectfully from Leadership and Executive staff and function as an effective team member.
  9. Must have the ability to comply with a workplace of dignity and respect.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

FORMAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

·         High School Preferred but not required. C.N.A. or Medical Assistant/Tech Preferred but not required

·         If in recovery a minimum of two years sobriety from all mood altering substances and/or alcohol is required.

SKILLS

·         Above average ability to accurately obtain vital signs including blood pressure, pulse respiration and temperature.

·         Ability to manage the residential and detoxification patients

·         Ability to function as a team member.

·         Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life threatening situations in an appropriate manner.

·         Ability to work in fast-paced environment.

·         Strong customer service and organizational skills.

·         Ability to relate to adolescents, adults, families, referral sources and internal

KNOWLEDGE

·         General knowledge of substance abuse and mental health behaviors

LICENSURE

·         Valid State of Florida driver’s license with safe driving record
