Behavioral Health Tech – Adolescent

 

LOCATIONS:  940 Bridier Street (32206) or 920 Bridier Street (32206);  May be asked to work either location

FT and PRN positions available

POSITION OBJECTIVES

The Behavioral Health Technician provides non-clinical assistance to the treatment team in the rehabilitation of residents at Gateway: Steps to Recovery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
  2. Demonstrate flexibility as a team member and promote a positive working environment.
  3. Provide services to individuals in accordance with the core competencies of a Behavioral Health Technician.
  4. Assist in maintaining a therapeutic environment in the organization’s residential programs.
  5. Understand the concepts of recovery and wellness as outlined in SAMHSA’s 8 dimensions of wellness for patients experiencing substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders.
  6. Promote patient life skills, including personal care and social responsibility.
  7. Monitor patient activities, including but not limited to meals, recreation, and pro-social activities.
  8. Provide services according to organizational policies and procedures.
  9. Provide services with cultural and linguistic competency.
  10. Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other state and federal laws.
  11. Maintain high ethical conduct regarding dual relationships, professional standards, and organizational values.
  12. Participate in pass-down log reporting at shift change for head counts and updates on patient progress and behavioral status.
  13. Conduct room and area inspections daily.
  14. Complete Incident Reports in the Electronic Health Record after reporting to the department manager and/or director.
  15. Assist in emergency preparedness with safety drills and inspections.
  16. Help protect the safety, security, and well-being of residents.
  17. De-escalate potentially adverse patient behavior.
  18. Report facility needs, including supplies and repairs, to the department manager or director.
  19. Transport residents to outside meetings, medical and other appointments as needed in Gateway-owned vehicles.
  20. Monitor client self-medication administration and/or assist in monitoring the medication line.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

  1. Must be eligible through DCF and AHCA with Level II Background checks throughout employment.
  1. Must abide by the organization’s Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, and state certification code of ethics.

  6. Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions using appropriate judgment.
  7. Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition, ensuring safe operating conditions.
  8. Must be able to take direction and guidance respectfully from managers and supervisors and function as an effective team member.
  9. Must have the ability to comply with a workplace of dignity and respect.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

 

·         High School Diploma, GED, or higher

·         Experience in substance use and/or mental health disorder programs is preferred.

·         Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record to meet standards for the organization’s insurance requirements.

·         Complete Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician within one year of employment.

SKILLS

·         Strong time management and organization skills.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Complete all written and electronic documentation legibly and accurately.

·         Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life-threatening situations appropriately.

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

·         Ability to relate to adolescents, adults, families, referral sources, and internal Gateway team members.

KNOWLEDGE

·         Knowledge of the recovery process and 12-Step programs preferred.

·         Knowledge of adolescent and adult behavior regarding family systems preferred.

·         Knowledge and understanding of cultural competencies to establish and maintain strong working relationships with culturally diverse patients, their families, and caregivers, as well as a wide range of community agencies and organizations.

·         Knowledge of referral sources preferred

·         Moderate computer skills, such as inputting 35 wpm, using Microsoft Office Suites, and an Electronic Health Record.
